The Farm
ANDERSON HOUSE, an island landmark built by old "Chicken Billy" Anstett on the pioneer farm of A.S.M. Andersen, is located on Eckenstam Johnson Road at the head of Oro Bay on the south side of Anderson Island. The working farm stands immediately adjacent to Andy's Park and "the fishing hole" at the tide flats. Settled firmly on pasture land which gently slopes down to the bay, and surrounded by almost two hundred acres of wetlands and timber, it is a unique place of warmth and friendliness which appeals to those seeking quiet and relaxation in the famous Puget Sound island region of Washington State.
The property is owned and operated by the Randy Anderson family. Grandson of pioneers Elsie and Erik Andersen, Randy and his wife, well known professional artist-designer, B. Anderson, carefully renovated the house to include overnight guest rooms and facilities for informal workshops retreats and small group meetings. Porch lounging offers a view of the unsurpassed beauty of Mt. Rainier and Little Vega Bay with its Blue Heron rookery. Eagles often soar high above the pasture where deer graze, unafraid, among the cows. On the west side of the Island, overlooking the Olympic Mountains, guests are invited to enjoy inspiring walks amidst old growth timber and comb the private secluded beach owned by the family.
Anderson Island Attractions
Meadow in the Front Yard Island landmarks are within walking and biking distance. Nearby Riviera Country Club offers casual dining in a delightful setting beside Lake Josephine. Golf facilities are available. Two spring-fed lakes on the Island offer great fresh-water swimming. The trail to Andrew Anderson Marine Park affords an excellent opportunity to learn about the natural history of Anderson Island. The Bay Shoppe, located at historic Christine Anderson Farm on Vega Bay, sells quality art, crafts, books and antiques. Visitors are welcome to visit the art studio in the converted chicken house. The Historical Society Museum on Otso Point Road is the site of another old island farm. There, during the summer season, the Society sponsors a well-attended Salmon Bake, Apple Squeeze, and performances by the Tacoma Concert Band. The popular Annual Island Fair is held in September.
Amenities
The 7000 sq ft. Scandinavian style farmhouse has rooms furnished with authentic antiques and heirlooms. All bedrooms have private baths. Freshly picked flowers, grown in the farm garden, are featured in each room. Greek food, Danish breads, and fresh pastries reflect the heritage of the owners. Seasonal menus include fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs from the kitchen garden; fish from Northwest waters, and fresh-laid eggs.

Oro Bay Marina We specialize in small group meetings, weekend retreats, and intimate weddings. We guarantee a quiet, peaceful environment and great food. Group rates include lodging and full use of all facilities. Arrangements for catering can be made. Copy and fax equipment is available. Seaplanes and boats can be accommodated in Oro Bay. If you would like a tour, please call for an appointment. In 1995, Anderson House at Oro Bay was selected as One of Washington's Ten Best Coastal Inns by the Washington State Tourist Bureau. It has also been recommended by Northwest Best places, KOMO, Sunset Magazine, Puget Sound Magazine, Seattle weekly, and others.

The Main House
A beautifully-prepared full breakfast is included with the nightly room rate of $150 per night.
* Additional charge for lunch.
* Group rates are available.
* The entire house may be rented for family retreats, intimate weddings, meetings, etc. for weekends. Special arrangements for longer periods of time.
* Special arrangements for meeting guests who come on private boats and plan to anchor in Oro Bay.
* Accommodations in the main house are not suitable for persons under 14 years.
* Pets are not allowed.
* Smoking is not permitted on the premises.
* Check-in time is 2 pm. Check-out time is noon. (Flexible by arrangement)
* Deposit is required to hold accommodations. A security deposit may be required for cabin rental.
Cancellation Policy
Deposits and rents are forfeited on cancellations taken less than 14 days prior to the planned date of arrival. If last minute cancellation is necessary and the accommodation can be rented, the deposit will be refunded, minus a 15% service charge. Payment of deposit constitutes knowledge of our cancellation policy.
Travel Directions
View from the Ferry To reach Anderson Island, take I-5 to Exit 119, the Dupont-Steilacoom Exit. Follow the signs to Steilacoom Dock (about 7 miles), where ferry tickets are purchased. Ferries leave regularly from 6am to 6pm, with later evening trips on weekends (Friday through Sunday). The ride takes approximately 20 minutes. Upon arrival at Anderson Island, drive directly up the hill to Eckenstam-Johnson Road (just past the Community Church). Bear left, and continue southward for approximately 3 miles. ANDERSON HOUSE is the big grey house with the big red barn at the head of Oro Bay, as pictured below.
Main House Guests are responsible for confirming the current schedule of ferry departures from Steilacoom Dock.
